Exploration and discovery are undoubtedly the most exciting aspects of a scientist’s journey. An equally critical but lesser considered component of the scientific process is the reliance on previous research studies. Surveying and referring to previous studies aids us in formulating new hypotheses, identifying the right variables, and collecting clues about the biological process you are studying.

In our experience as both students and teachers of biology, we believe that close engagement between practioners and learners of science will offer tangible examples that learners can find inspiration in. With the readers of iThink Biology, we want to share the stories and thoughts of scientists who are studying wild cats, or exploring the morphology of fungi in a laboratory as you read this!
